Online Sales Are Taking The Lead

Online retail sales are increasing at a record pace. It won’t be long before they are outperforming store front sales. There are a number of reasons for the increase but one of the major reasons is the growth that we are seeing in the Asian market. From handbags and apparel to music downloaded from various sites Asia is one of the fastest growing markets in the world for web sales. The increase is possible because the technical infrastructure has expanded and the payment options which at one time were a major obstacle are more secure than ever. At present only about 17 percent of the population in Asia has internet access but that is expected to rise to 20 percent per year and in Japan the growth is predicted to be a staggering 40 percent per year. So you can see how the Asian market is helping to increase the total online retail sales. With China and India internet activity the entire internet access population is expected to increase by 4o percent each year.

Online retailers are seeing this as an opportunity to connect directly to the consumer. Even with the world wide economy trouble the consumers who have shopped online are still shopping but may be looking for bargains on second hand goods and using auctions sites more frequently. Online stores are appearing in record numbers as hobbyists and entrepreneurs look for outlets for their wares and new ways to make money in a down economy. In the U.S. stores like Macy’s and Best Buy are experiencing growth despite the downturn in the economy spurred on mostly by their online sales. Sales of everything from Mitsubishi Parts and Hyundai Parts to books, DVDs, music downloads and more on the rise in every segment around the world.

With increased sale in Asia, Europe, Australia and other areas of the world that are coming online retail online sales will explode in the next few years and account for a very large percentage of retail sales in their respective areas. As those sales increase you will see the storefronts slowly decrease in size and find more and more major retailers entering the online market each year.

The online market allows retailers to continue to grow, do specialty marketing to consumers and control inventories easier and more efficiently. The opportunities available with online sales are mind boggling. When we talk about potential growth we have to make sure we include markets around the world as well as web influenced purchase from every international segment. That will give us the true picture of the growth of a new marketplace that is just about to explode beyond belief. It’s something that you can feel when you surf the web or talk with people on a daily basis. More and more people are comfortable with shopping online for all kinds of merchandise. Innovation in payment processing that makes things more secure has increased consumer confidence and trust of transactions at online stores.

Online Sales On The Rise!

Online retail sales have given birth to a whole new industry over the last ten years. Everything from Mitsubishi Parts Mopar parts, used books, jewelry Jeep parts to military surplus is sold online. One of the most successful online stores of course is Amazon. The online retail sales market continues to grow by leaps and bounds with the entry of larger retailers like Macys and Bloomingdales who can boast about a 30% increase in online sales in one month in 2011. The picture painted for the growth of online sales is impressive and when you consider that many retailers do not separate their online sales when they report their sales it becomes even more impressive.

There are many reasons for the surge of online retail sales. Today’s unstable economy and the price of gasoline keep many consumers at home. Most households have at least one computer. What better way to conserve gas than to surf the internet to find what you want? In addition to the economy, time has become an issue for many consumers. Technology was supposed to save time but it seems that today we are busier than ever. Buying online is the answer for so many consumers that are pressed for time they never shop any other way. Even the groceries can be bought online and delivered to your home.

We are a society of convenience. When you can shop 24 hrs a day in the comfort of your home, online stores make a whole lot of sense. They also make sense for the large retailers because controlling inventory becomes easier and online sales allow them to continue to grow. Moving away from large brick and mortar stores reduces overhead and increases the bottom line. More and more retailers are taking the leap each year and it seems like they all now have a dotcom. In addition to large retailers the online store has opened up a whole new industry for individual entrepreneurs and hobbyists to market and sell their goods online.

So online sales will continue to grow and reporting of online sales will become more consistent when retailers realize that it will be online sales that keep them going. Year after year online sales increases by double digits and year after year more major retailers and entrepreneurs join the world of the dotcoms to sell their merchandise and services. This world may look a lot different in twenty years because the online store will become the rule rather than the exception. Households will do the majority of their shopping from home, advertisers will have to change their marketing direction and entrepreneurial pursuits will increase.

Whether you see this as a good thing or bad thing the change is coming and retailers, advertisers and marketing people need to be preparing for that change. Those who prepare will be successful and those who don’t prepare will disappear from the market place because online stores are here to stay. The growth will continue and there is no stooping it now.
